Admiral Togo Heihachiro was a Japanese naval commander who led the Imperial Japanese Navy to victory in the Russo-Japanese War. Togo was born in 1848 in Kagoshima, Japan. He joined the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1869, and quickly rose through the ranks. He served in the First Sino-Japanese War, and was promoted to captain in 1894.
