Dorothy Vaughan, the groundbreaking mathematician who played a pivotal role in the early days of NASA, left behind a trove of personal artifacts that offer a fascinating glimpse into her life and work. Among these treasures is a handwritten autobiography titled _My Early Library_, which provides a unique window into her childhood and the formative experiences that shaped her extraordinary career.

In _My Early Library_, Vaughan recounts her early years in rural West Virginia, where she developed a love of learning at a young age. She writes about her family's meager library, which consisted of just a few books, and how she would spend hours reading and rereading them. It was these early experiences that instilled in her a lifelong passion for knowledge and a determination to succeed.

As Vaughan grew older, she continued to pursue her education, despite the challenges she faced as a black woman in the early 20th century. She earned a degree in mathematics from Wilberforce University and went on to become one of the first African American women to work as a mathematician for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA),which later became NASA.

At NACA, Vaughan made significant contributions to the agency's research efforts, including the development of the first computer programs used for space exploration. She also mentored and inspired countless other women and minorities who aspired to careers in STEM fields.

In addition to her autobiography, Vaughan's personal papers include letters, photographs, and other documents that shed light on her life and career. These materials are now housed in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where they are available for research and public viewing.

For anyone interested in the history of space exploration, the life of Dorothy Vaughan, or the role of women and minorities in STEM, _My Early Library_ is a must-read. This fascinating autobiography offers a unique glimpse into the mind of a pioneering mathematician and a testament to the power of determination and perseverance.
