The Early Years
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, at Pope's Creek Plantation in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest of six children born to Augustine and Mary Ball Washington. His father was a wealthy planter and tobacco merchant, and his mother was a devout Christian. Washington's childhood was spent in a comfortable and privileged home. The Presidency
