Michelle Obama was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 17, 1964. Her parents were both working-class people, and Michelle grew up in a small apartment on the South Side of Chicago. Despite her humble beginnings, Michelle was a bright and ambitious student. She attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School, and after graduating, she worked as a lawyer and community organizer.
In 1992, Michelle met Barack Obama, a young law student at Harvard. The two married in 1992, and they had two daughters, Malia and Sasha. In 2008, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States, and Michelle became the First Lady.
As First Lady, Michelle Obama worked to promote healthy eating and exercise, and she also supported military families and veterans. She was a role model for women and girls around the world, and she used her platform to speak out about important issues such as education and race.
